Service to God that will last

Text 1 Corinthians 1:26-31; John 15:15-16; 2 Corinthians 3:5-6

The world goes for the best. This mindset makes many people think they cannot serve God Due to a Lack of wisdom, not being influential, a poor background, sin, bad character, timidity, etc.

However, God chooses people the world calls 'unqualified' to serve Him. God makes them competent vessels for His service. This should encourage people to come to God. Those who criticise others should stop. The chosen ones should not be proud because they have nothing.

Service to God that will last: How?

  1. Faith in God: All things are possible for the one who believes in God. But without faith in God, you can do nothing (John 15:5-8; Heb. 11:1-2). Our service to God will last if we trust Him.

  2. Seed: Whatever God gives us must be received as a seed. We do not have to eat the seed, but rather, sow it so that it grows to be a blessing to many people (Matthew 13:31-32).

  3. Ministry: The early church entrusted the ministry to others to succeed them (e.g., 2 Tim 2:2). Pass the ministry on to someone, who will also pass it on to someone (2 Timothy 2:2). In this way, our service to God will last.

  4. Family: Transmission of the gospel from parents to children (e.g., Genesis 18:18-19). In this way, every generation shall receive the gospel message.

  5. Salvation of the human soul is the most important gift in life (Matthew 16:26). As long as we preach the gospel, people will receive eternal life.

  6. Mission: Wherever we go to plant a church, we shall build a church building. As long as there is a building for people to worship God, our mission endeavours shall last.

  7. Priority: In ministry, we have freedom (1 Cor 10:23), but we are called to seek the kingdom of God first at all times (Matt. 6:33).
