A sermon on what is destroying people’s lives and what can be done
Text 1 Cor. 10:1-13; Matthew 24:4-14
In the first reading, Paul tells what destroyed some people on their way to the promised land. In the second reason, Jesus tells us what will destroy people’s lives in the end times.
As the church celebrates its 20th anniversary, we shall examine some of the things that are destroying people’s lives and what can be done to prevent others from suffering the same fate.
1. Stealing others’ blessings (Deut. 2:1-9; Rom 13:6-7)
: e.g., taking someone’s money or property for free
2. Marital and relationship problems ( 1 Cor 7:28).
Unfaithfulness, ungratefulness, lack of maturity, and lack of knowledge about marriage. If you don’t solve yours, you are likely to suffer.
3. Prodigal living: Spending your money, time, and energy on wild living (Luke 15:11-32)
4. Biting and devouring each other (Galatians 5:15)
5. Witchcraft/the occult (Deut. 18:9-13)
The use of spiritual powers that are not from God. E.g. witchcraft, sorcery, divination, talking to dead people, palm reading, talking to spirits, etc.
Solution: repentance and to be filled with God’s Spirit.
6 Conspiring and fighting Joseph (Genesis 37 )
Josephs are people God raised to be a blessing to the family and the society.
When families conspire and fight Joseph, they make life difficult for Joseph, if they kill Joseph, the whole family suffers.
7. Fighting against Moses (the leader, e.g., Numbers 12 ). Everything rises and falls on leadership. Without a godly leader, the church suffers, the family suffers, society suffers, and the individual suffers.
