Faulty and broken society: a return to God's righteousness?
Our first reading tells us the nature of a broken society and how a society becomes broken- a rejection of God (2 Chronicles 15:1-7).
Our second reading is about how God protect the righteous in a broken society, a reason to give your life to God and to be His worshipper ( 2 Peter 2:4-9 ).
The third reading is about the fate of a person without God - very vulnerable, anything at all can destroy the person, the person cannot work on the soil, and everything will be artificial (e.g., Cain, Genesis 4:10-17).
Our society is broken and on the wrong path, so as we celebrate Jubilee, we shall ask God for a return to righteousness. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to its people (Prov. 14:34).
WHY WE SHOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT OUR SOCIETY
Those who don’t care about the righteousness of their society perish with it ( Mat 24:38-39)
God expect us to seek the welfare of our society because if it prospers, we too shall prosper (Ezekiel 22:30; Jer. 29:7).
Our society is faulty and broken: some signs.
Wickedness, mocking/blaspheming God (e.g. recent Olympics), the consequence is godlessness
and wickness2. Artificial foods and intelligence (artificial things can be amazing but cannot help
humans) 3. Idolatry (e.g., the last Olympics in Britain).
CHRISTIANITY IN THE WEST: TIMELINE
A minority, to the religion of the society; then it was relegated to fridges of society; now God is mocked in the West, and we are heading towards Christian persecution in the West.
How a godly society is built (e.g., Asa, 2 Chron 15:8-19): The people are called to repentance by
God’s servants (Act 3:26) are to throw away idols and wickedness and worship only God.
What if the society repents not? Ans: God knows how to protect the righteous ( 2 Pet 2:4-9).
